To Serve The Present Age
To Serve the Present Age
A recording of our bicentenary play by Kit Harbottle
In 1809 Tavistock, then a mining boom town, became the centre of a “circuit” of Methodist churches, (previously run from Cornwall). This play, written for the bicentenary celebration in 2009 explores what had - and had not - changed since then. Hannah, a Tavistock shopkeeper in 1809, meets Melanie, a doctor here today. As their friendship develops over the year, they work out what their shared faith means for the life changing decisions they each face. Amid troubled young people, casualties of war and discredited politics, it explores how love and faith lead to hope.
The recording is split into 5 parts, each 10-15minutes long. The files are located in the right hand column along with the poster for the original production. Photographs of the scene locations are in the left hand bar. We are grateful to Chris Nicholls for making this recording. Cast credits are at the end of the play
This recording is freely available for individual or small group listening. Queries about any other use should be made to Kit Harbottle via the church office.
